TURA: Congress candidate Malcolm Sangma for Rochonpara constituency in Selsella has denied the opposition NPP’s charge of distributing relief material to garner votes and threatened to file a defamation case in court against the allegation.
“The charge leveled against me is totally false. No truck of rice has been seized from me or my people. The NPP leader deserves condemnation for such a deplorable statement. He has done it deliberately to tarnish my image as a political leader and has also cast aspersion on the Congress party and its government. It is nothing short of a smear campaign against me and my party,” stated Malcolm Sangma.
The working president of the NPP Conrad K Sangma had alleged that the Congress had distributed rice under the pretext of relief in Ujjaingre village of Selsella during the current campaign period and had sought action.
Terming the statement of the NPP leader as totally unfounded and defamatory in nature, Malcolm Sangma said, “necessary legal action will be initiated against him after due consultation with my party leaders.”
