Moosakhia village declared ‘Open Defecation Free’

JOWAI: Moosakhia village in West Jaintia Hills District has been declared as the ‘Open Defecation Free (ODF) village’ under the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’.
The program was implemented by the office of the executive engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Jowai Rural Water Supply and facilitated by the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) and the North-East Slowfood and Agro Biodiversity Society (NESFAS).
There are 94 households in the village and all have been equipped with their own toilets. The PHE Department in Jowai has sanctioned toilets to 46 households in the village.
The programme is also a part of the preparation of the International Terre Madre or ‘Ka Internatinal Mei-Ram-ew Festival’ which will be held on the first week of November. Moosakhia village is one of the participating villages. During the festival, foreign delegates will pay a visit to the village, informed the President of the SURE, HH Mohrmen.
The declaration of Moosakhia village as one of the ODF villages was made by the DRDA Project Director, DM Wahlang during a meeting held on Friday. A certificate was also handed over by Wahlang to the headman of the village.
