Minor girls rescued from lodge in Odisha
Berhampur (Odisha): Two minor girls were rescued from a lodge and its manager was arrested on kidnapping charge at Phulbani in Kandhamal district, police said today. “Four motorcycle-borne youths had brought two girls, aged about 15 years, to the lodge in the morning yesterday. They have been locked up in two rooms at the lodge. We rescued the girls and handed them over to their parents last night,” police officials said. The manager of the lodge Sishira Kanta Das was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the mother of a rescued girl, they said adding that efforts are on to nab the four youths. (PTI)
Four killed as SUV turns turtle in Rajasthan
Jaipur: Four persons were killed and eight injured when the SUV they were travelling in turned turtle while trying to avoid hitting a motorcyclist at 31-ML in Sri Ganganagar district, police said today. The victims were travelling from Rawala to Ganeshgarh when the accident occurred yesterday under Muklava police station, they said. The police have identified the deceased as Maniram Nayak (60), his wife Vidhya Devi (55), their daughter-in-law Rammati (40) and Hanuman Meghwal (47). The injured, including motorcyclist Sukhji, were shifted to different government and private hospitals, they said. (PTI)
FIR against Sharad Yadav for poll code violation
Biharsharif: An FIR has been filed against JD(U) president Sharad Yadav for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct, police said on Friday. The FIR against Yadav was filed last night at a police station in Nalanda district on the basis of a report by the Circular Officer, they said. Yadav had in a poll meet on Wednesday said those who would not vote for JD(U) candidate would land in “Jehanum” (hell). (PTI)
Seven labourers killed after vehicle turns turtle in UP
Bahraich: At least seven labourers were killed on Friday and two others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in, overturned near Ghaghra ghat railway station here. The labourers were on their way to Bahraich from Lucknow to caste their vote in the panchayat election taking place today when they met with the accident on Lucknow-Bahraich highway, police said. The incident happened after the labourers got buried under the dumper after it overturned, police said, adding that by the time locals and police could pull them out, seven men had already died. Two children mowed down by truck in Bihar
Buxar: Two children died after being mowed down by a truck in Bihar’s Buxar district on Friday. The incident took place around 6 am when Priyank and Pushkar, students of Class II and Class III respectively, were riding on the scooter of their neighbour to school. The driver of the scooter lost control over it and it came under the wheels of a speeding truck. The two children were killed on the spot, police said. The truck driver surrendered before police after the incident. (PTI)
