Arrested ex-militant granted bail

Guwahati: Former militant leader of now disbanded Dima Halam Daogah (J) group, Mihir Garlosa alias Jewel Garlosa who was arrested by Assam police on Sunday, two days after he had joined the BJP, was granted bail by a local court in Dima Hasao hill district on Monday.
Garlosa who is now an Independent elected member of Dima Hasao Autonomous District Council, was arrested in connection with a murder case registered against him in 2008 in Langting police station in Dima Hasao hill district of Assam. He had joined the BJP on Friday last along with eight Congress members of the hill district autonomous council, a development that stunned the ruling Congress in Assam as well as in the council. Assam state BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharyya lambasted the ruling Congress of being revengeful for arresting Garlosa who had joined the mainstream after giving up arms few years back during the previous UPA government in the Centre.
“Garlosa’s arrest exposed how vindictive the Congress could be. He was arrested in an old case immediately after he chose to join the BJP,” the BJP leader said.
