Guv calls for care of ‘abandoned mothers’

SHILLONG: Meghalaya GovernorV Shanmu-ganathan has stressed on the need to take care of abandoned mothers in the city.
While addressing a gathering during the Navratri celebration organised by the Marwari Sammelan Mahila Samiti at Aurobindo Ashram here on Saturday, the Governor said that the essence of Dandiya dance lies in paying respect to the various Goddesses and likewise people should take in the spirit of the festival by taking care of the abandoned  mothers.
Navratri is a major festival celebrated with great zeal for nine nights and ten days.
Nine incarnations of Goddess Shakti – Durga, Bhadrakali, Amba or Jagadamba, Annapoorna, Sarvamangala, Bhairavi, Chandika, Lalita, Bhavini and Mookambika – are worshipped, with some regional variations.
Dandiya which originated as devotional Garba dances is performed in Goddess Durga’s honour and is actually the staging of a mock-fight between the Goddess and Mahishasura.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Governor also took part in the Dandiya dance.
