Shillong Polytechnic students demand better facilities

SHILLONG: A student delegation from Shillong Polytechnic under the banner of Shillong Polytechnic Students’ Union called on Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh here on Monday to apprise the Minister of the problems faced by them.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to Lyngdoh demanding the replacement of equipment like the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and upgradation of the laboratory and workshop of the institute.
The students also demanded improvement in technical engineering tools besides calling for introduction of digital learning in the institute. Facilitating field trips for students, free wi-fi inside the campus, installation of an ATM machine inside the campus and providing three buses for commuting were among the other demands placed by the Union. They also demanded the renovation of the Sports ground and for the provision of sports kits to the institute.
According to general secretary of the Union, Pynkmenlang L. Lyngkhoi the Minister expressed his to comply to the demands of the Union due to lack of funds.
The SPSU general secretary said that further course of action will be decided upon after a meeting of the union members.
