SHILLONG: Community and Rural Development Minister Prestone Tynsong said that tussles and misunderstandings between the Village Employment Council functionaries are creating problems in the implementation of the MGNREGA.
While speaking during a workshop on electronic fund management system for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) using internet services and core banking facilities of the Banks for distribution of wages to the beneficiaries on Monday, the Minister asked the officers to make continuous efforts to ensure smooth implementation and effective monitoring of the projects.
He said the state government was trying to work out ways and means to revamp the system and asked the officers from the Blocks and Districts to improve the delivery mechanism.
I.R. Sangma Joint Secretary C&RD informed that the Union Ministry of Rural Development has constantly been working on mechanisms to reduce the delays in payment of wages.
The State Government has signed MoUs with various banks to increase the coverage of the Banks through Business Correspondents, she informed.
“Under the e-FMS, we can effectively use the Information Technology tools and core banking systems to transfer the entitlements to our beneficiaries account,” she added.
The workshop delved on the usage of e-FMS and digital signatures for implementing the Direct Benefit Transfer System.
The workshop conducted by the State Rural Employment Society (SRES) in collaboration with the Directorate of Community & Rural Development was attended by officials of the concerned departments.
