SHILLONG: With the implementation of the system of 4th teacher in Upper Primary SSA schools, a disparity has ensued in the salary to the SSA teachers.
In this connection, the Meghalaya SSA School Association submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education, R.C. Laloo, on Monday.
Speaking to media persons later, M.K. Raswai, president of the Association, said they have requested the deputy chief minister and the school education officer to evaluate the disparity in the salary paid to the 4th teacher and the other three teachers.
Raswai informed that the education minister did not directly give any assurance with regards to the salary disparity citing lack of funds in the State, although he assured to take up the matter with the chief minister.
“We want an assurance that salary enhancement will take place as soon as possible so that the 4th teachers get a reasonable payment,” Raswai said.
The Association also voiced its concern against the decision of the State Government to classify teachers as ad hoc, improved (which has now been done away with) and 4th teachers, etc.
Speaking on the Association’s next move, Raswai said they will wait till December.
The Association, it may be mentioned, has demanded immediate enhancement of salary of 4th teachers with effect from April 1, 2013.
The Association has pointed out that assistant teachers were drawing salary of Rs.9900, while the 4th teachers were being paid Rs.6000 by the State Government.
