SHILLONG: Though Denang T Sangma from NPP was elected as the CEM of GHADC, his tenure will be short lived as the NPP leader Conrad Sangma will head the Council once he is nominated to the Council.
NPP sources said that since Conrad was elected as the leader of Garo Hills Progressive Alliance (GHPA), he would head GHADC after his nomination.
Sources said that the process of nomination of Conrad will start after the puja vacation. Though NPP as single largest party with 10 members had projected Conrad as the next CEM, the GHADC rules did not permit him to be the CEM.
As per the rule, a non elected member cannot be CEM in GHADC.
Sources added that Conrad has to first wait for the CEM and his EC to recommend his name as nominated member which would subsequently facilitate him to become the CEM.
Govt  yet to get info
The State Government is yet to get any information regarding the developments in Garo Hills even as the District Council Affairs department was on Wednesday busy checking the rules whether the election of CEM can be held soon after the election of the Chairman on the same day.
District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh said that he had not received any information regarding the appointment of CEM in GHADC.
The Commissioner and Secretary District Council Affairs J. Lyngdoh said that for the election of CEM, the Chairman has to first fix a date and the Secretary, GHADC will issue notice to the MDCs regarding the election.
