Counting on November 24

SHILLONG: Byelection to  Nongstoin assembly constituency will be held on November 21,  the Election Commission of India announced on Wednesday.
The bypoll is necessitated following the death of HSPDP chief Hoping Stone Lyngdoh on September 26.
The EC’s sudden announcement has taken political parties by surprise as it was earlier expected that bypoll will be held early part of next year.
The candidates can file nomination papers from October 28, the day of official gazette notification for the bypoll.
The last date for filing nominations is November 4, while the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held the next day.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is November 7.
The counting of votes will take place on November 24.
PTI adds from New Delhi: Byelections for two Lok Sabha and five other Assembly constituencies will be held on the same day. The two Lok Sabha seats where polls will be held are Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh) and Warangal (Telangana). The Legislative Assembly seats are Lohardaga (Jharkhand), Devas (Madhya Pradesh), Thangmeiband and Thongju in Manipur, Aizawl North in Mizoram.
The seats have become vacant in the last six months due to various reasons including death of sitting legislators.
An EC statement said the model conduct of conduct on these seats has come into force with the declaration of polls.
