SHILLONG: The former ANVC-B Chairman Bernard Marak has alleged that other than illegal detention of cadres for a minimum of three months, there was no progress on the Agreed Text for Settlement arrived at between the government and the ANVC groups.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Marak said that in an irony of sorts, illegal detention of the cadres seems to be the so called “rehabilitation packages’ for the members.
“13 months after the Agreed Text for Settlement, there is delay in executing the agreement which is creating confusion among many, forcing us to raise questions on the contents of the agreement,” Marak said.
He added that the cadres, instead of getting the best out of the agreement, are being forced to
face worse situations. “Many cadres who joined mainstream are picked from their homes and put in jail with series of cases slapped on them”, Marak alleged
He pointed out that the state government is using force against common people and former ANVC-B cadres who are neither armed nor involved in illegal activities.
“The ‘Agreed Text’ was a solution to many issues related to people of Garo Hills which is intentionally being delayed”, Marak alleged, while reiterating the need to bring good governance by implementing the Agreed Text for Settlement.
