TURA: Parliamentary Secretary in charge Forest and Environment, Marthon J Sangma has admitted that less amount is being paid to SSA teachers in Meghalaya compared to other Northeastern states and assured the teachers to take up the matter with the government.
Addressing the fourth general conference of the  All Garo Hills SSA LP/UP School Teachers’ Association was held for two days at the Mendipathar Multipurpose Cooperative Hall in North Garo Hills, Sangma however asked the teachers to work diligently to fulfil the SSA mission in Meghalaya even though less amount of salary is being paid as compared to other Northeastern states. He said that it was only because of SSA schools that the state had achieved a higher literacy rate at the elementary level in the remote areas.
Sangma assured to take up the matter with the Education Minister, Parliamentary secretary in charge of Education and other Cabinet Ministers of the state.
He also urged the teachers to remain united in order to fulfil the long pending demand of the association.
The conference was attended by over one thousand SSA teachers from different corners of Garo Hills.
