Delayed Umsning Bypass gets back on track

SHILLONG: All hurdles related to the delayed Umsning Bypass project have been overcome paving the way for its implementation shortly.
All the necessary land for the Bypass have been acquired and handed over to the implementing agency.
Officials have informed that the agency was preparing the designs and drawings for the Umsning Bypass.
“Once the designs are completed, construction work will begin,” the official sources said, adding that it will take 18 working months for the Umsning Bypass to be completed since there is a lot of work required to be completed with a totally new alignment approved for the Bypass.
The around 5 km Bypass is an integral part of the Umiam-Jorabat Expressway but the project faced due to controversies and land acquisition hurdles.
At the moment, all vehicles travelling on the Umiam-Jorabat Expressway have to negotiate through the existing Umsning road which is in a dilapidated state owing to neglect and disrepair.
