DC takes steps to reschedule exam
NONGSTOIN: The nomination papers of all the four contesting candidates for the November 21 Nongstoin by-poll, Gabriel Wahlang (Congress), Dios Jyndiang (HSPDP), Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait (Independent) and Mosklandar Marngar (UDP), were found valid after the scrutiny of papers on Thursday.
An election official said that while all the nomination papers were found valid, the last day for the withdrawal of candidature is November 7.
Meanwhile, the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S. Kharlyngdoh, who is also the returning officer for the by-poll, is taking taken necessary steps to ensure that the poll date does not clash with the upcoming Class IX examinations in the constituency.
A delegation of KSU West Khasi Hills unit led by its general secretary Wellessly Lyngkhoi also met the Deputy Commissioner in this regard to ensure that the election does not affect the students who are preparing for the examination.
Many of the schools, especially those run by government, will be utilized for voting and this will affect the students who are appearing for their  examinations, the KSU said.
In this context, the Union also urged the school management to delay the holding of examinations.
In response, the Deputy Commissioner told the delegation that a letter was sent to the Controller of Examination MBOSE to do the needful.
