Tezpur (Assam): Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Friday said security upgradation in the North East region is very significant as the area is attached to the international border.
Inaugurating the frontier headquarters of Sashastra Seema Bal here, he said the people of Assam would be benefitted by it as it is along the Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Nepal boundary. “Security upgradation in the North East region is very significant as the area is attached to the international border,” Rijiju said. He lauded the role of SSB in helping people in frontier habitats and said the frontier sentinel is socially attached to the people of the North East region, particularly Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The new SSB Frontier Headquarters is the second in the state and the seventh in the country. “We (the Centre) are working for the welfare of the people of North East but ethnic violence should be avoided for development of the region. The local law and order machinery and the administration should be robust to avoid ethnic clashes,” he said.
Referring to inter-state border disputes, he said the border is only a demarcation for administrative purpose. “We the people of India must unite by avoiding these disputes.” (PTI)
