SHILLONG: Much to the embarrassment of the State Government, the fountain light installed in the heart of the city at Khyndailad has once again gone out of order for many days. Khyndailad being the main commercial hub of the town is thronged by thousands of people including tourists daily.
Shopkeepers said that it has been many days since the light has completely stopped functioning and they were unaware whether efforts are being made to rectify the problem.
The fountain light installed in the heart of the city at Khyndailad is out of order for over a month now. Earlier in March, the same problem occurred but it was later rectified and the lessee who was given the responsibility of maintaining the fountain light was removed.
But once again the lights have become dysfunctional leaving the main hub of Shillong city in darkness.
The fountain light was installed at a massive cost around a decade back.
Shopkeepers in the area lamented that the lights were not functioning since the past several days but no one was bothered to address the issue.
Some shopkeepers claimed that the dark rotary at Khyndailad was leaving a bad impression on the minds of hundreds of tourists frequenting the place.
All attempts were made to get comments from the Urban Affairs department but to no avail.
