NEWDELHI: Veteran journalist Hemendra Narayan has passed away here following a sudden heart attack.
”Narayan (65) was recently discharged from a hospital here after being treated for a lung disease. He died on Monday night after slipping on the bathroom floor following heart attack,” family sources said.
He is survived by his wife, daughter and son, who works for NDTV.
He had a short stint with The Shillong Times as its Consulting Editor.
Narayan began his journalistic career with the United News of India (UNI) in Patna and thereafter worked as a special correspondent in newspapers Indian Express based in Shillong and Guwahati and The Statesman (Lucknow). He was cremated on Tuesday afternoon.
Narayan, was one of the three media persons who witnessed the Nellie massacre of 1983 as it was unfolding. Later, he penned a book ” 25 years on, Nellie still haunts”.
Earlier, a condolence meeting was also held in Narayan’s memory which was attended by several media persons. Journalists across Uttar Pradesh have also expressed their grief over the sudden demise of Narayan. Meanwhile, UP State Accredited Correspondents Committee(UPSACC) president Pranshu Mishra and vice-president Narendra Srivastava have condoled the death of the scribe. A condolence meeting was also attended by several journalists. (UNI)
