Murder accused arrested in Assam

SHILLONG: Police on Wednesday arrested one Ashim Sinha from Assam for allegedly murdering a woman identified as Soma Chettri (21) in the city.
The victim’s body was recovered on November 3 from a house at Raigorh Annex, Jail Road. Sinha was working as a driver and the woman stayed with him in the room for a while.
As no one lodged complaint, taking suo moto cognizance of the alleged murder of the woman, police immediately started investigation and identified Sinha as the suspect. However, he absconded before the body was found.
Later, the investigating team managed to trace him at Rupagre under Patharkandi Police Station, Karimganj district, Assam.
A raid was conducted in the early morning on Wednesday with the assistance of Assam Police and the suspect was arrested. He was brought to Shillong on the same day and a request was made to Court to remand him to seven days police custody.
