Outfit threatens police of more drastic military offensive
SHILLONG: Accusing the State government of ignoring their call for peace talks, the outlawed HNLC on Wednesday threatened to launch fresh strike in the State.
In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, HNLC publicity secretary, Sainkupar Nongtraw, declared that their call for unilateral ceasefire stands invalidated.
“We have been initiating peace talks for the last one year but there has been no solution. Neither the public nor the police department nor the State government should blame the HNLC for any future bloodshed. We shall strike at the earliest and the entire responsibility shall be undertaken by the Police department and the Government of Meghalaya,” he warned in his statement.
Speaking of the low profile the outfit has kept over the years, Nongtraw said, “The low profile was to prove our unilateral ceasefire but we will strike again due to the adamant attitude of the Police dept and the Government of Meghalaya towards our peace dialogue.”
The outfit slammed the Police department of hiding facts and misleading the public through fabricated analysis and the State government’s step-motherly attitude in light of initiating peace talks.
The outfit scoffed at police claims that the recent blast at Jhalupara was of mild intensity and added that the impact of the blast shook the whole area and the buildings, alarming the residents and at the same time damaged nearby vehicles.
He reiterated that HNLC cadres had purposely detonated the RDX in front of the road roller at Them Mawbah to avoid human casualties as the RDX had the strength and intensity to blow up anything within a 100 metre radius.
Nongtraw further said the group did not intend to shed blood, adding that they believe in human rights, at the same time cautioning the police department of ‘more drastic military offensive’.
