Union launched
The Nazareth Hospital Workers’ Union was launched on Thursday at Bethany Society, Shillong, with the aim to bring cooperation among its members to bring about better facilities of workers in the Hospital, to protect the employees from harassment by the administration, to promote better wage standards for the workers, to promote child development and child care among others. The Union consisting of about 140 members has been registered as a trade union by the Labour department.
Conference
An international conference on ‘Molecular Signalling: Recent Trends in Biosciences’ is being organized by the Dept. of Zoology, NEHU, Shillong, on November 20-22. Over 150 delegates from all over India and abroad including a large number of leading and renowned scientists are expected to attend the conference. The conference will be inaugurated on Nov 20 at 9:30 am at the Multi-Use Convention Hall of the University.
Demonstration
Postal employees of Shillong on Thursday observed a morning hour demonstration in front of Shillong GPO in protest against Central government’s inert attitude towards settlement of the 7th Central Pay Commission related issues.
Condemnation
The Jhalupara Village Council and all its residents have condemned the blast that took place on November 12 at Jhalupara near Jeevan Ram Goenka Hospital. They stated that such acts affect the peace and harmony of the State.
