SHILLONG: Unhappy over the delay on the part of the State Government to make public the magisterial probe report into the killing of two villagers s at Mookhep, the pressure groups from Jaintia Hills have decided to stage a protest march towards Secretariat on November 30 holding black-flags.
The Jaintia National Council (JNC), and the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) have decided this during a meeting held on Thursday.
According to the pressure groups, there was undue delay on the part of the Government to release the report.
On September 24 last year, two villagers were killed and several others injured at Mookhep in the police firing on a crowd protesting against the apathy of the Government to address the concerns of the people following the NGT ban on coal mining.
Following this, , a magisterial inquiry was ordered and the magistrate, East Jaintia Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner S.S. Syiemlieh submitted the report.
However, the Government rejected the probe citing that the report posed more questions than answers.
While the pressure groups wanted the government to make public the magisterial inquiry report, the state government in March this year had entrusted Wahlang to further probe the incident.
Though the deadline for submission of the probe report by Wahlang was September 24 this year, he had sought more time for examination of witnesses which was allowed by the political department.
However, Wahlang is yet to submit his report even after the completion of the probe recently
