NONGPOH: Members of the Khasi Students’ Union North Khasi Hills District led its vice president Vincent Makri on Friday pulled down and destroyed four hoardings depicting the message ‘Welcome to Guwahati’ put up between Jorabat and Khanapara in Ri Bhoi District. Makri said the Union was concerned over encroachment by private firms along the National Highway by erecting signboards and hoardings depicting the words ‘Welcome to Guwahati’ on land falling under the jurisdiction of Meghalaya. He also came down heavily on the local Rangbah Shnong and the Syiem Raid for giving NOC to private firms to erect the signboards or posters without verifying the wordings for their personal benefits.
“The KSU will not part with even one inch of land to Assam to erect signboards as any work done by Assam in the border areas amount to direct encroachment in Meghalaya” Makri added.
