HDR bats for setting up of more cooperatives in State

SHILLONG: A week-long celebration of the 62nd All India Cooperative Week, 2015 from November 14 to 20 took place in Tura wherein the Minister of cooperation, HDR Lyngdoh graced the occasion as chief guest.
While highlighting Amul’s revolutionary changes to the lives of people, Lyngdoh stated that cooperatives are the major economic force of the country if people take full advantage of the benefit it provides.
Showing his appreciation towards the dedicated work of  Rose Kayathinkara, he said that her efforts need to be acclaimed for uplifting the economic status of the people of the area.
“The cooperative societies are designed especially to benefit the farmers and hence it is the friend of the farmers as well as the needy people,”  Lyngdoh said.
The theme for the programme was “Make in India through Cooperatives” and the  Topic was “Financial Inclusion – Cooperatives – Issues and Challenges”.
It may be mentioned that Garo Hills Cotton Ginning Mills at Phulbari, Kapasipara Co-operative Society at Halidayganj and the Tura Urban Cooperative Bank has been successfully running for 41 years this year.
Later, the Chief Guest also inaugurated the mini exhibition which was held on the occasion with a view to showcase and encouraged the sale of local products of the area. Message of Meghalaya Chief Minister,  Mukul Sangma was also read out.
B. P. Modak, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Incharge Zonal Office, Tura welcomed the gathering while the Branch Manager, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd, Tura proposed the vote of thanks.
