SHILLONG: With no response from the Election Commission of India on its complaint against former Chief Minister D.D. Lapang for holding dual posts as the Chief Adviser to the State Government and as an MLA, the UDP has decided to follow up the matter.
It was in October end that the UDP had petitioned both the Election Commission of India and the Meghalaya Governor demanding Lapang’s disqualification for holding dual posts.
“We are still waiting for the response from the Election Commission and we will pursue the matter,” UDP youth wing general secretary Hamlet Dohling said on Sunday.
He also hoped that the Governor will take appropriate action based on the party’s complaints.
According to UDP, Lapang has been holding the office of profit as Chief Adviser to the Government which has not been exempted under the Prevention of Disqualification Act, 1972 of the State.
