SHILLONG: The State government is yet to submit the priority list to NEC for the year 2015-16 for release of funds for execution of several projects in Meghalaya.
An official with the North Eastern Council said that early submission of priority list will help to release funds thereby accelerating development.
Besides Meghalaya, Assam is another state which is yet to submit the priority list of projects whereas rest of the Northeastern states were prompt in sending the list to avail the funds, the official added.
Sources said that after Ramnganing Muivah took over as the NEC Secretary, there are efforts on his part to revamp the functioning of the Council.
Earlier, soon after taking over in September this year, Muivah had stressed the need on the part of the Centre for more fund allocation to the NEC, which is considered as the nodal agency for economic and social development of the North East.        After assuming charge, Muivah had also pointed out that for the entire North East region comprising eight states, the budget allocated by the Centre was a meager Rs.700 crore.
He had stressed the need to ask for more funds after ensuring full utilization of the budget allocated for the Council.
