Agartala: Police launched an investigation against two senior police officials for allegedly abetting the suicide of an inspector of Tripura State Rifles (TSR), 5th Battalion in Amarpur of South Tripura last week.
Police said Pradip Bhowmik; brother-in-law of the deceased inspector Barun Baidya, has lodged FIR at Birganj police station alleging that Baidya was compelled to commit suicide because of mental torture perpetrated on him by Assistant Commandant Tulamoni Chakma and Nayak Subedar Jutan Biswas.
“Barun, who had received President’s medal for his outstanding performance, was depressed due to physical and mental pressure by the accused officers, which has led to the fatal incident”, Bhowmik said in the FIR.
Officer in Charge (OC), Birganj police station Arunoday Das said on Sunday, “We are sending the AK-47 rifle and suicide note of the deceased to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) for test before taking further action.”
According to report, in a 17-page suicide note, Baidya had blamed Chakma and Biswas as they used to torture him both physically and mentally.
However, the Officer in Charge declined to elaborate on the suicide note of the deceased TSR personnel.
Baidya (52) committed suicide by shooting himself at Doloma barrack, headquarters of TSR, 5th Battalion.
The dreadful incident happened on November 25, triggering widespread resentment among the jawans. (UNI)
