A Workshop on National Bamboo Mission carries out

SHILLONG: “Bamboos in Meghalaya are very rich and it can be used for various purposes”, additional PCCF, Social Forestry & Environment YS Shullai on Monday asserted while addressing a Workshop on National Bamboo Mission at Lady Hydari Park.
The Workshop was organised by the Social Forestry Division, Department of Forests and Environment,
Shullai further said that the National Bamboo Mission was launched to provide an interface where the people and the government can work in synergy to help enhance bamboo plantation and production.
National Bamboo Mission was launched to motivate communities, NGOs, SHGs, Farmers and Entrepreneurs.
The mission also aims to provide an interactive coupling between technology, economy, environment and society for speedy development of the bamboo sector.
The workshop was attended by artisans, craftsmen and members of different Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) from various ranges and divisions. It may be reminded that more than 4000 hectare of plantation has been created in Meghalaya under the National Agro forestry and Bamboo Mission (NABM) scheme is being implemented in Meghalaya  since 2006-07.
However after 2010-11 for a period of 3 years, the State could not get funds under the scheme but funding has resumed in 2014-15 with a small release of  Rs 96 lakh for the whole state.
