SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the Jailor and Assistant Jailor of the Shillong District jail to forward the FIR (if any) filed by GNLA leader Champion Sangma against the jail authorities to the respective police station. The matter relates to the assault of Champion last year June by the jail inmates inside the jail, thereby exposing alleged laxity in jail.
Following the incident of assault, Champion had filed an FIR against the jail authorities, but it was allegedly not forwarded to the Sadar Police station.
During the last hearing on November 5, the  Jailor U. Kyndiah and Assistant Jailor T. Marak, who  were present in the court had  explained that they could not forward the FIR as the date was not mentioned therein. The Court had also asked the District Judge to conduct an inquiry into the incident of assault of Champion. The High Court during the hearing on Tuesday, while referring to the report of the Judge said that it appears that nothing much came out as the CCTV System installed could not produce footages of  60 days.
Bail plea: During the hearing, the counsel for Champion submitted that he may be allowed to withdraw the  bail application which was filed, with a liberty to file afresh before the trial court as and when necessary in near future.
