SHILLONG: The second meeting between the deputy commissioners (DCs) and superintendents of police (SPs) of the border districts in Meghalaya and Bangladesh has stressed the need for sharing of information on militants and other criminals taking shelter on both sides of the international border.
The three day meeting which began on December 1 concluded on Thursday at Mymensingh in Bangladesh.
The meeting discussed issues of border crimes, setting of new border haats and improving the existing ones, sharing information on criminals on either side, improving cultural ties and various other issues concerning borders of both India and Bangladesh.
The meeting also deliberated on issues relating to the detention of criminals who are citizens of both the countries for long periods.
The Indian delegation was led by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P.S. Dkhar who was accompanied by the deputy commissioners of East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, South West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.
The Meghalaya police team was represented by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M. Kharkrang.
The Bangladesh delegation was led by Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Mustakim Billah Faruqui who was accompanied by other DCs, SPs and commanding officers of Border Guards Bangladesh.
