Govt retains 18 villages with SWKH dist

SHILLONG: Ending uncertainty over the inclusion of some villages in South  West Khasi Hills, the State government  has decided to retain 18 villages under Warsan Lyngdoh area within the Mawkyrwat Community and Rural Development Block and falling under -Ranikor  Assembly Constituency, with the South West Khasi Hills district as notified earlier.
The villagers had earlier protested against their inclusion in South West Khasi Hills by saying they would  ( be deprived of benefits of various developmental schemes once they are included in the district.
They also moved the High Court of Meghalaya following which a public hearing was held to decide the matter.
During the public hearing people overwhelming had demanded inclusion of Warsan Lyngdoh in West Khasi Hills District for the betterment of the public while only a few people wanted to be associated with South West Khasi Hills.
According to an official statement, a notification in this regard is being issued after considering the report of the public hearing and feedbacks received from various quarters.
