SHILLONG: Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Paul Lyngdoh on Friday revealed serious anomalies in the compensation amount provided to land owners by the Ri Bhoi district administration while taking possession of their land for the expansion of Umroi Airport.
PAC member Ronnie Lyngdoh, while addressing the media, said out of the 14 land owners whose lands were acquired, six land owners did not receive any compensation.
He also pointed out that compensation worth Rs.1 crore for two plots of land acquired from two land owners was given to others whose names were not even mentioned in the list of beneficiaries.
Paul said the PAC had asked the Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner to provide a list of officers under whose tenure the compensation money was disbursed in 2010.    The PAC said the High Court should have appreciated the efforts of the Committee which wanted transparency in the disbursement of compensation amount and stated that the Transport department has also failed to follow up the matter.
