SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has put a stay on the Premier Badminton League scheduled to be held from January 2 to January 17.
The order came from the High Court after a petitioner, Sobhagaya Media Private Limited, moved the court claiming to be a franchisee of the Premier Badminton League, formerly known as Indian Badminton League, for the city of Shillong.
The petitioner by way of writ petition has challenged the validity of the franchisee meet held in New Delhi on December 6 without inviting the petitioner to participate in the same.
The petitioner also prayed for declaring the franchisee meeting conducted by Badminton Association of India in New Delhi as null and void.
The petitioner claimed for issuance of appropriate writ, order or direction declaring the auction conducted by the Badminton Association of India on December 7 as arbitrary and illegal, adding the petitioner has also prayed for Mandamus to direct Government of India to restrain the Badminton Association of India from organizing the Premier Badminton League or act in furtherance of the auction conducted on December 7.
The matter has been listed for hearing on December 15.
