JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) will hold a special session on Monday to amend the Village Administration Bill as per the advice of the Governor.
JHADC Chairman, Laitsing Shylla informed that the Legislative department of the Council has served notice to all members about the convening of the special session.
It may be mentioned that Governor, V. Shanmuganathan had on Tuesday sent the VAB of the JHADC to the Department of District Council Affairs and following subsequent consultations with the Law department, the Bill was referred to the JHADC for further amendment.
‘Guv will give assent to Bill as a Christmas or New Year’s gift’
“After the minor amendment, the Governor will, in all likelihood, give his assent to the Bill either as a Christmas or a New Year gift,” Shylla said adding that the JHADC members held a two-hour meeting with the Governor in this regard in the presence of Principal Secretary M.S. Rao and retired Ambassador, India Foreign Service, Rever Wahlang.
The association of headmen, Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) recently met the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and others in Delhi seeking their intervention for clearing the pending VABs both in Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills.
After their return, the headmen reiterated that they are determined to see the logical conclusion of their demands.
