SHILLONG: One Steven V. Lyngdoh allegedly duped a city resident Richie John Kurbah of Rs.2.80 lakh on the pretext of getting him a contract to install the air conditioning system in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
The victim lodged a complaint claiming that in December 2012, he was offered to work for installation of the air conditioning system in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and was asked to deposit Rs.2,50,000.
Accordingly, on December 11, 2012, he deposited a cheque of Rs.2 lakh, and later paid Rs.50,000 in cash on January 9, 2013 and another Rs.30,000 in cash on March 15, 2013. The victim later learnt that no such work had been proposed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and that Steven V. Lyngdoh had cheated him.
