SHILLONG: Taking a deviation from the traditional way of celebrating Christmas, several organizations have come together to celebrate what they call “the Christmas of the working class”.
The Nazareth Hospital Workers’ Union (NHWU), North East Region Domestic Workers’ Union, AITUC, Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) and Raiot Webzine are hosting a workers’ Christmas Carol entitled ‘Jesus the Worker; Christ the Revolutionary’, from 5 pm at Khyndailad on Monday. Lou Majaw, Gwyneth Mawlong, Tarik, Sanat Basaiwmoit – Arkaitor, La Tynrai, Cryptographic Street Poets etc., will perform during the event.
The multilingual performances will be interspersed by sharing of messages and experiences around the theme.
It is an open stage celebration and the organisers have extended an open invitation to any artist who may want to share their music with the workers’ movement in Meghalaya.
