Govt goes ahead with Irene

SHILLONG:  As expected, the State Government has forwarded Irene Lyngdoh’s name to the State governor for his approval as a nominated MDC of KHADC.
Informing this here on Thursday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the Cabinet took the decision on the basis of a  proposal of  the District Council Affairs department which said “a woman should be the nominated MDC since the KHADC has only two   women MDCs.”
Earlier, KHADC had proposed the name of a retired District Council Judge J Reenbohn to the Governor for the said post. Subsequently, the state government had also forwarded the name of Lyngdoh for the same.
In view of this development, the Governor had sent back both the proposals to the state government to decide who should be the nominated to fill up the vacancy of the nominated MDC.
According to Sangma,   as per Article  163 of Indian constitution, the Governor   on the advice of the   of the Council of ministers can nominate an MDC and in exceptional matter, Governor can use his own discretion to nominate an MDC.
Sangma also said that the Cabinet took the decision  of recommending the name of nominated MDC in sync  with the provisions of the constitutions   and rulings of the   Supreme Court.
