SHILLONG: There is a demand for installation of CCTV cameras in Williamnagar town and other areas which would have helped the police in identifying those who planted the IED which triggered the blast injuring nine persons.
Besides Shillong, the state government had installed CCTV surveillance only in Tura.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, Dikki N Marak, president A’chik Students’ Welfare Association (ASWA), Central Administrative Board,  Tura said that CCTV cameras must be installed in sensitive areas of Williamnagar. Marak also called for strengthening the presence of security personnel.
While condemning the Williamnagar incident, the ASWA said that the blast in the beginning of the year has shocked the entire Garo Hills.
“It is not acceptable to the people of the region. We appeal to groups who are creating terror in the minds of our people to refrain from the violent incidents and instead join hands together for peace and tranquility in Garo Hills,” the ASWA said.
Condemnation
The Achik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO), North Garo Hills also condemned the incident.
The blast has come at a time when nearly all the NGOs, civil society organizations, pressure groups and church leaders are trying to restore peace in the already trouble-torn Garo Hills.
“This act of terrorism has hampered peace in the region,” said Jimbarth Marak,
publicity secretary of AYWO, Dainadubi branch.
