Tura: Prayers echoed at the 9th Diocese Annual Youth Convention organized by Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Nongstoin Diocese at Sacred Heart Parish, Shallang in South West Khasi Hills on Sunday afternoon wishing for the speedy recovery of those injured in Williamnagar blast.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who was also present on the occasion, appealed to the youth at the Convention to engage themselves in a “powerful prayer” for the nine persons who were injured by the “cowardly, dastardly act” of the perpetrators at Williamnagar on Saturday, so that they recover soon and get back to their normal lives.
Meanwhile, impressed by the energetic and lively gathering of thousands of youths and the faithful of West and South West Khasi Hills region, the Chief Minister said it was a befitting way to start the year with the young people converging together to motivate and enlighten each other with knowledge and wisdom. Quoting a number of verses from the Scriptures, the Chief Minister said, “We are so blessed to have a beautiful land and we are beautiful people. If we connect with our past, we will know that God Himself sent the Gospel to us”.
He said that the theme of the Convention, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy”, was very apt in today’s world. He also exhorted the youth to carry with them the spirit of love and compassion so that they are capable of accommodating each other’s needs.
“We need to share our positive thoughts and energies with others so that we all receive the blessings and are capable of contributing to the welfare of others”, he added.
The Chief Minister was visibly emotional as he sang two verses from a Garo prayer song at the end of his address.
Earlier, he greeted the congregation with two lines in Khasi language drawing a huge round of applause.
Mawshyrut Legislator, Witting Mawsor was also present on the occasion.
