CCTV surveillance demand after Saturday’s blast

TURA: While the shop keepers will be putting up CCTV cameras at their own initiative after Saturday’s blast, the traders during the meeting with the East Garo Hills district administration also attended by local legislator Deborah Marak wanted the state government install CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations.
Trade and business establishments in Williamnagar town will up their shutters from Tuesday, three days after a powerful IED explosion destroyed a shop and injured nine civilians.
Following the 12:45 noon IED blast outside Warimong wine stone in the heart of Williamnagar market on Saturday shopkeepers had downed their shutters and refused to open up citing lack of sufficient security at the main market area.
The prolonged closure of the shops had hit consumers and the general public hard with short age of essential commodities at many homes.
On Monday, a delegation of traders held a meeting with district officials headed by deputy commissioner Cyril Diengdoh in which local MLA and Social Welfare minister Deborah C Marak also attended in the office of the deputy commissioner.
During the meeting several points were raised by the concerned traders including the need for installing of close circuit televisions (CCTVs) at public places and more security deployment in the vulnerable areas of the market.
