Uma Nath Singh set to retire on January 14

SHILLONG:  With the Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya Justice Uma Nath Singh set to retire on January 14, the name of acting Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Tinlianthang Vaiphei, is doing the rounds to be appointed as the next Chief Justice of Meghalaya.
The Acting Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court had earlier served as the Judge of the Shillong bench of the Gauhati High Court.
Sources said that there was no official confirmation on whether Justice Vaiphei will succeed Justice Uma Nath Singh as the matter will have to be decided by the collegium of the Supreme Court, which is yet to meet.
Besides the vacancy of the Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya, another vacant seat will be that of the Judge of the High Court as Justice TNK Singh will be retiring on February 1.
Earlier, speculations were rife on the appointment of a new Judge for the High Court  and the names for consideration were those of HS Thangkhiew, TT Diengdoh, VGK Kynta and M Diengdoh, all from Meghalaya. According to sources, for the appointment of new Judge , the collegium of the High Court will send the name to Delhi for consideration
