SHILLONG: Pressure is mounting on Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to quit the post following the High Court order asking the CBI to register case against her and others for their prosecution for giving permission illegally to construct high-rise buildings.
Opposition UDP  during its meeting held on Tuesday  felt that, in order to facilitate a fair prosecution, either the concerned Minister should resign or that the Chief Minister should drop her from the cabinet.
The party alleged that the “Minister is doubly culpable in view of her ignoble track record in the eyes of the law”,
The party also discussed the matter pertaining to the issue of nominated member in the KHADC (J Reenborn) and GHADC (Conrad Sangma) and felt that the government should have considered the respective proposals which were brought about after following the district council rules, instead of violating the underlying principles of nomination.
The meeting has decided to shortly send a formal representation to the government to this effect.
Besides, the party also deliberated at length on the recent amendment to the Meghalaya Service and Conduct Rules, debarring anyone in the service, except previous sanctions, to hold office or membership in any community based organisations, associations and traditional bodies which the party felt is a retrogressive step in a democracy, especially where community based organisations and traditional bodies are concerned.
