SHILLONG: A rampaging Royal Wahingdoh FC dismissed visitors Guwahati FC 8-0 in a U-15 Youth League match played at the Madan Heh stadium in Mawlai here on Tuesday.
The outstanding display also gave the Royals their sixth consecutive win of the tourney taking them a step closer to the final round. Table toppers RWFC are now at 18 points from six games while their nearest rival SAI, Guwahati is at 13 points. Shillong Lajong FC, meanwhile, are placed third in the standings with 7 points.
A hat-trick by Modester Matlai (34′, 42′, 72), brace by Freestar Kharbangar (50′, 77′) and a goal each by Rheadolf Nongneng (6′), N Mahesh Singh (54′) and Bhabokstar Shyrkon completed GFC’s rout.
Earlier, the Royals dominated proceedings from the word go and it took them just over five minutes to get the scoreboard ticking. A 6th minute goal from Rheadolf Nongneng gave the hosts the first of their eight goals.
A double strike by Modester in the 34′ and 42′ minutes respectively ensured that the Royals go to the break with a 3-0 lead.
The worst was not over for the visitors who went 0-4 down when Freestar struck in the 50′. Barely four minutes later, N Mahesh Singh found the back of the nets as the hosts took an unassailable 5-0 lead over the hapless visitors.
Matlai, meanwhile, completed his hat-trick in the 72′ even as Freestar struck for the second time five minutes later.  If that was not enough, Bhabokstar banged one into the nets at stoppage time to complete a famous 8-0 win for the hosts.
RWFC will next play SLFC on January 15.
