SHILLONG: Taking cognizance of complaints that New India Assurance has stopped reimbursing money to the hospitals which are claimed by the beneficiaries of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), Health and Family Welfare Minister A.L. Hek on Wednesday said he has decided to call a meeting of the concerned officials around next week to find out why the insurance agency had stopped reimbursing the claims.
“We will have to find out why it is happening and will take action accordingly,” he said, while admitting that he had received complaint to the effect.
Earlier, the Subordinate Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had slammed officials of the Health department claiming that MHIS was not being implemented in a proper manner and that many hospitals had stopped accepting the MHIS card. Hek, however, stated that he had not come across any such complaint where hospitals have refused to accept the card even as he added that there may have been some instances where people might have submitted their MHIS card while getting discharged from the hospital. In such cases, the hospitals will definitely not accept the card.
“People need to submit their MHIS card while getting admitted at the hospital,” he clarified.
He also added that the Health department has done its best to enroll as many people for the scheme as possible and stated that the department will come out with a new system where people who have already enrolled under the scheme will not have to renew their card every year.
