Tripura demands superfast express trains from Agartala

Agartala: Tripura Transport Minister Manik Dey has submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha seeking expansion of railway services including superfast express trains from here. He submitted the memorandum during the ceremonial programme of the trial run of the first Broad Gauge (BG) passenger rail to Agartala station on Wednesday. In his memorandum, Dey said the railways must ensure strict adherence to time line of commissioning of BG line up to Udaipur by March 2016 and up to Sabroom by March, 2017. The state government would extend all cooperation within its limited resources to help complete these projects, the memorandum said. He requested that the Railway ministry consider introduction of Rajdhani and other super fast express trains from Agartala to link Tripura with the major cities of the country. “The state government was already agreeable to the proposed elevated corridor for the Akhaura-Agartala rail link project. The revised land cost for Rs 97.63 crores was also intimated to the ministry”, Dey said.
He added that the state government requested to pay at least 60 per cent of the revised land cost.
33 locations from Kumarghat to Agartala rail line, 14 road over bridge, 13 road under bridge and six manned level crossing were provided. He also urged for setting up a separate railway division in Tripura and a railway recruitment centre for the benefit of the state’s people. (UNI)
