SHILLONG: Police operation to rescue the seven abducted Assam traders is in progress with assistance from Assam police.
Informing this on Sunday, DGP Rajiv Mehta said, “We are getting the leads and we are exploring North Garo Hills district and other neighbouring areas.”
Suspected Garo militants had on Friday afternoon abducted ten traders while they were returning from a weekly market in Kharkutta region of North Garo Hills. However, three traders were let off and the remaining seven were taken away on foot by the armed abductors. The lucky trio reported the incident to police only on Saturday.
Responding to a spurt in militant activities in the State, the DGP said, “The major groups will be neutralized.”
