Meghalaya Governor calls for corruption free Nation

SHILLONG: “Do not give or accept bribe. India must put an end to bribery and corruption”, said Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan while speaking as the chief guest at the concluding function of National Youth Week celebration held at Raj Bhavan on Monday.
Recalling the sacrifices made by Swami Vivekananda as well as other freedom fighters and reformers that India has produced, the Governor urged upon the youths to emulate the life, philosophy and ideals of these great men and women whose sacrifice and dedication to the nation have imparted India its greatness.
The Governor also called upon the gathering to imbibe the spirit of dedication, patriotism, spirituality and compassion for the poor and downtrodden: qualities that Vivekananda possessed and lived by.
He emphasized on the need to pay attention to the suffering and underprivileged for a brighter India.
Citing the achievements of contemporary Indians in different fields worldwide, the Governor took the occasion to inspire youths “to innovate, improvise and to end corruption in all its form”, adding that youths are the builders and shapers of tomorrow that will mould Meghalaya and strengthen India”, he said.
“Youth is a period of joy. Youth is the spring of life. Youth is the age of dreams and discoveries”, he further enthused.
Adding fervour and colour to the celebrations were the patriotic songs and dances sung and performed by students.
It may be reminded that National Youth Day is celebrated every year in India on the January 12 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, maker of modern India.
The day is observed to inspire the youths of the country to adopt the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and his ideals for a vibrant India.
