Tura: A GNLA cadre who was reportedly part of the group behind the Williamnagar market blast, last week, has been shot dead by police during a raid on a hideout at Bangonggre, 5 kms from the district headquarters.
East Garo Hills police raided the hideout of GNLA action commander Jimmy (Ajan) Momin on Monday leading to a ten-minute-long gunbattle during which a senior cadre identified as Chibok Ch Marak was shot dead while the rest escaped.
“We recovered a GNLA identity card from the body of the deceased. He belonged to the 6th batch of recruits of the outfit as per his identity card,” said the district police chief Davis Nestell R Marak.
Police also recovered a pistol with four live ammo, GNLA letter pads, gelatin sticks and other explosive materials from the site.
According to the police chief, the GNLA had split the action group into three units to avoid detection in the aftermath of the Williamnagar attack.
While one unit was with deputy commander Pangseng another was with another senior cadre by the name of Kongsil.  The third unit commanded by Jimmy.
