Raj Thackeray renews attack on north Indians
MUMBAI: Blaming the north Indian migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for the auto strike that inconvenienced thousands of Mumbaikars Monday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray lashed out against them with renewed vigour Tuesday. Stating that Mumbai Auto-Rickshawmen’s Union leader Sharad Rao had no other business, Thackeray said MNS would intervene to see to it that the hapless Mumbaikars are no longer inconvenienced due to the strike. Rao has threatened to go on an indefinite strike next month if their demands of fare hike and no harassment from transport officials are not met. “If he (Rao) continues to behave like this, it will be difficult for him to step outside his house. Let him be ready to face the challenge of Raj Thackeray and the wrath of the people,” Thackeray told reporters at a press conference.(IANS)
Corruption can be fought only through political system: Rahul
NEW DELHI: In a veiled attack on Anna Hazare, Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the battle against corruption could be fought “only through political system”.”People talk of corruption. If you want to fight corruption then this can only be done through the political system, through democratic means,” he said while addressing Youth Congress activists at a meeting here.But Gandhi did not not name anyone but his remarks came on a day when Hazare declared that he would campaign against Congress in Assembly elections in five states if the Lokpal bill was not not passed by Parliament during the winter session.The Congress General Secretary pitched for making organisations more democratic and involving ordinary youth, who find politics inaccessible. “The biggest problem is that politics is out of reach of the ordinary youth of the country,” the Congress general secretary said. “If we make our organisations democratic, it would be a major step towards fighting corruption,” Gandhi said, adding that his party was opening doors for the youth of the country to join politics.(PTI)
Pandya’s widow sends legal notices to Modi ,Gujarat DGP
AHMEDABAD: The wife of slain former Gujarat Minister Haren Pandya has sent legal notices to the Home Minister, DGP and city Police Commissioner for allegedly spying on her and invading her privacy. Jagruti Pandya sent the notices through her lawyer a couple of days back after she found out that two policemen were allegedly inquiring about her from the security guard of her house in Satellite Police Station area here. “I have sent legal notices to the Home Minister, DGP, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner and Inspector of Satellite Police Station for spying on me and my family,” she told PTI on Tuesday. The Chief Minister Narendra Modi holds the Home portfolio. “Nobody has a right to know about my personal life. I was out of station for some days when two policemen came and inquired about me from my watchman,” she alleged. “After I returned, I caught them red-handed taking pictures of my house and inquiring about my movements from the watchman,” she said, adding these men were from the Special Branch of the police department. “These men were working under direction of the city Police Commissioner, who in turn would be acting under the DGP and the Home Minister,” she claimed.
