SHILLONG: Lack of inclusive approach on the part of the state government in celebrating the Meghalaya Day on Thursday was criticised by  UDP.
Reacting to news report that the Opposition Leader and many legislators were not present during the Meghalaya Day celebrations, the UDP MLA Titus Chyne said on Friday that the party legislators including its president Donkupar Roy, who is the Opposition Leader, were not invited to attend the function.
“It is not that we purposely remained absent during the Meghalaya Day function as the fact is that nobody was invited to attend such an important function,” Chyne said.
Besides Opposition members, majority of the ruling Congress members also did not attend the function to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the formation of Meghalaya.
Those who were present included the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma , his wife   Dikkanchi D Shira, two Cabinet Ministers, Roshan Warjri and AL Hek, MLAs Kennedy Khyriem and Bluebell Sangma, all close associates of the Chief Minister.
It is yet to be known whether other Congress Ministers and MLAs were asked by the Chief Minister to be present during the Meghalaya Day function.
