14 coal laden trucks seized, drivers, coal labourers held

Rampant violation of NGT ban on coal mining

SHILLONG:  As many as 14 coal laden trucks were seized and equal number of drivers arrested besides effecting the arrest of four coal labourers for extracting coal, in two separate incidents in violation of NGT order both in East Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills on January 28.
According to police, on Thursday at around 3 pm, Police arrested four coal labourers identifeid as Shibor Dkhar, Reconsider Pala, Haster Nongspung and Special Lamurong, while they were extracting coal from a quarry belonging to one Swer Rymbai at Umsatai village in East Jaintia Hills in violation of NGT order.
Again on the same day, police detected and seized fourteen coal laden trucks from Williamnagar, and arrested all the drivers. The coal laden trucks had both Meghalaya and Assam registration number plates
The fourteen drivers, who were arrested, have been identified as Silseng Sangma,  Md. Sanuwar Hussain,  Md. Jahirul Islam, Changrak B Marak , Cherak Ch Marak, Md. Asraful Islam, Md. Zamal Ali, Md. Ismail Ali,   Md. Alimuddin Sheik,  Md. Fazor Ali, Md. Joynal Abeddin, Md. Fulbar Rahman, Md. Daimul Sheik and  Raju Biswas. Police said that they were booked in violation of NGT order at Williamnagar.
Prior to this on January 25, police detected and seized two coal laden Mahindra Pick-ups (ML-07B-3317 and another without number plate, in violation of NGT order at Chidekgre in East Garo Hills.
Police arrested the drivers identified as Gilbarth A Sangma,  Greame Ch Marak and a handyman  Janggan M Marak.
